Leat’s heart

My goal is to reach souls through music

Leat Sabbah

Born in New York, Leat Sabbah is a multi-genre Cellist, performer and producer. This year Leat has been featured with her band Gulaza at WOMEX, hailed by BBC Sounds as “the most extraordinary and talked about concert in WOMEX 2018.” Her debut offering as a solo artist, “Music in the Quiet Room”, is set to come out later this year, making 2019 an eventful year, with concerts scheduled at major world music festivals in Poland, Slovenia, Hungary, Switzerland, and Sweden.

Classically trained at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London and Manhattan School of Music, Leat pursued the competitive classical music path for over a decade, performing extensively in Germany, France, Ukraine and the US and winning 3rd prize in International Cello Competition in Austria.

Desiring to transcend the structure of written music, Leat started deepening her connection with her middle-eastern roots, beginning a creative shift towards the freedom and spontaneity of world music.

In 2010 she emigrated to Israel, where the rich East-West cultural melting pot made fertile ground for a transformation of her art and career. Combining her technical prowess with new inspiration and sounds, Leat quickly found her place amongst the top musicians of Israel’s thriving world music scene. She has shared the stage with Shye Ben Tzur (Hebrew/Qawwali music) and Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead, and showcased at WOMEX 2018 with Gulaza, a project that gives breath and new meaning to ancient women songs from Yemen.  Among other projects Leat has recorded a Cello and Rhabab duet with Yaron Pe’er to high international acclaim, and arranged and performed the massively viral rendition of “Karma Police” with the Israeli diva Shefita.

Leat’s first solo album “Music in the Quiet Room”, a 45 minute journey of rich dialogue between Cello and Piano, was released in September 2019. Composed and arranged by Leat, and performed together with Nazarene pianist Adeeb Sakhnini, “Music in the Quiet Room” is a soundtrack for prayer, bending between grace and hope, intimacy and serenity. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting release.
