Let it Rain (2021)
“Let it Rain” is a special song for these times. The message is about hope and longing… The song is a prayer that asks for the floodgates of heaven to pour out the “rains”, metaphorical language for something greater than physical rains.
Leat Sabbah – Atmaca (Cello Orchestra Cover – Laco Tayfa)(2021)
An explosion of the classical cello in oriental music, Atmaca by the Turkish fusion band Laco Tayfa (Turkish for hawk) for me is about a celebration of the freedom of movement. This arrangement was born in a time of isolation, when I wanted to be free, free like the hawk.
Dance of fire (2020)
Dance of Fire is a tribute to the great Azerbaijan female jazz pianist Aziza Mustafa Zadeh. Made in collaboration with the husband and wife four-hand piano duo Adeeb and Sireen Sakhnini from Nazareth, the project was recorded during the last total lockdown in Israel. The Dance of Fire is about the dance that lies within the crucible of this time; the fire that we are passing through and the dance of searching and finding the light within the darkness. May we find that light!
Leat Sabbah – ‘Elohai’ (The Journey of Prayer – Psalms 51 Instrumental)
A celebration of the journey of prayer – from shy murmurs to loud shouts of praise! Elohai (Hebrew: My God) is piece I wrote based on a passage from Psalm 51 “Unseal my lips, O Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise.” These words were my encouragement to start praying from the beginnings of my journey in faith. Prayer is absolutely transformative, peace-giving and producing joy!
Leat Sabbah – Emotional Jewish Prayer Avinu Malkeinu
Avinu Malkeinu (Our Father, our King) is one of the most powerful Hebrew prayer songs from the Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) synagogue service. “Deal with us graciously for Your own sake, since we can plead little merit before You.”
Yemenite Birth Song
An original composition for solo cello celebrating the birth of a child. A traditional Yemenite custom of specific songs for birth, this piece was inspired by an archival recording. Live at the Ben Zvi Institute for the study of Jewish communities in the East, Jerusalem, July 2019.
